When cleaning your glass & mirrors, there are many different steps you can take to make sure the job looks great. Here is a look at what type of products to use, what type of cloth to wipe with and the difference between glass and mirror. I hope you can use this information to help maintain your glass or mirror furniture. Here are a few quick tips:
Type of Cloth to Use:
First off, what type of cloth to wipe with. There are many options, but one of the most effective is a microfiber cloth. These are great because they are very easy to clean, are not scratchy, but are still effective against fingerprints and smudges. Another option is fabric protection film, which is a great protectant for glass and mirrors. It is very easy to apply, although I do recommend doing it with a regular cloth as opposed to a microfiber cloth as this will remove the film rather than simply wiping off the glass. It does, however, leave a little residue which when wiped away gives your glass & mirrors a little bit of a streakier appearance.
The Cleaning Process:
Now, on to the actual steps to take in cleaning your glass and mirrors. The first step is usually to use a regular glass cleaner. This not only cleans the glass but will also give your mirrors that polished look. Most glass cleaners will have a special microfiber cloth for glass and mirror use. After this, you will need to gently agitate the glass & mirrors with a soft bristled brush, to remove any debris or dust.
After this, it's time to use a mirror shine product. Mirrors are often times more susceptible to staining because they are not always polished. Some products will actually polish the surface and provide a clear, pristine shine. For best results always use a product that is specifically designed for glass and mirrors. These products typically contain an anti-staining agent which helps to prevent scratches and make the glass appear brand new.
Once the anti-staining product has been applied, it is important to wipe off the residue left behind by the cleaner. To do this, simply use a clean cloth and rub off the product with a light hand motion until the residue is no longer visible. Then, use a dry cloth to buff the surface of your mirrors. Repeat these steps for your other mirrors in the home, and you should be able to see a huge difference in the way each mirror appears. It is quite astounding what a simple polish can do to such a dull piece of furniture.
Restoring Old Furniture:
How to get your glass & mirrors to shine after they've been tarnished is something that many people would prefer to avoid. However, when you take the time to properly care for the items, you can actually extend their life by years. It's important to know that most household items are not suited for the outdoors. If you have any pieces of glass or mirrors that you have spent a lot of money on, you should protect them from sunlight. Never place glass objects near windows or use them as tableware. Even if you want to store them out of the elements, make sure you store them away from direct sunlight and avoid storing them in extremely hot environments.
